Rock Hall

Grade II listed Rock Hall was built around 1807 for T.B. Crompton, a local paper manufacturer and was surrounding by a sprawling paper mill on one side and large reservoir, mill ponds on the other a few years later. Today the building is used for storage by the local council but was until recently a tourist information centre for the Moses Gate Country Park.

Brick with slate roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays, the central 3 bays breaking forward under pediment. Stone base and top cornice. Windows have gauged- brick flat arches and are sashed with glazing bars. Round-headed entrance has glazed doorcase, fanlight with glazing bars and paired 3-fielded-panel doors. Gable-end stacks. C20 rear extension of no special interest. Interior has festoon frieze to one room and fireplace with Ionic columns to another.

This building is listed under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 as amended for its special architectural or historic interest.
