After collecting from heavily mined areas on the moorland above Barrow Bridge in Bolton the Dean Brook has the look of a mountain stream in places but its pleasant nature belies the fact that it has been heavily modified by industry for much, if-not-all of its course. The charming moss-covered boulders that line its banks, on inspection are found to have been placed by hand, rather than by nature.
Dean Brook is a tributary of the Astley Brook and once powered the mill at Barrow Bridge.
