Smithills Hall Kitchen Garden (ruin)

A little ‘lost’, walled garden, built in the latter half of the 19th Century, that once grew food for Smithills Hall.

The site was used as a plant nursery or ‘garden centre’ in the 1980’s and later as a plant nursery and storage site by the local council. Now quite overgrown with some structures remaining along with walls of the Gardener’s Cottage and an area of water tanks that collected spring water via a now broken aqueduct over the clough to the East.
