Smithills Hall Park Waterfall

A small ornamental waterfall on the Raveden Brook, constructed as part of the former parkland of Smithills Hall.

A pond behind the waterfall acts as a reservoir, although it is quite silted up it provides at least a small amount of water flowing over the fall in all but the driest weather.

The waterfall in Smithills Hall Park hasn’t looked its best for a few years with a bit of litter about, slightly overgrown and quite a lot of well trodden mud on the footpath which is well used but not “official” and without surfacing or safety. The slope down is overgrown and often covered in leaf-litter and mulch and leads directly to the stream where it’s sometimes possible to cross over the rocks. Best viewed from the bridge at the top if you aren’t sure-of-foot.

It’s great if you catch it on the right day, and can have a good deal of water coming over at times. Worth a look if you’re visiting Smithills Hall or the country park.
