Ousel Nest Quarry

Ousel Nest Quarry operated in the 19th Century taking rock straight out and onto trains on the adjacent railway line via a tramway. The quarry was disused by the early 20th Century.

The sandstone quarried here gives its name to the type of rock geologically known as Ousel Nest Grit (or sometimes Horwich Grit).
