River Yarrow

River Yarrow is for the most part a quiet stream, at one time flowing down from the moorland above Rivington. Now interrupted by the Rivington Reservoirs though it flows on through a lovely area once known as Primrose Bank before flowing under the M61 at Limbrick and down into the Duxbury Woods and Big Lodge Water at Yarrow Valley Country Park.

This part of the Yarrow passes some very scenic woodland areas with good walks by the stream and through the surrounding woodland, with carpets of wildflowers surrounding the banks in Spring. Despite its natural beauty the landscape is post-industrial with a number of interesting ruins and old mines close to the river which was also a source of water for the early mills and bleachworks.

The Yarrow flows on across the plains around Croston before joining the Douglas, close to Tarleton before heading out to sea via the Ribble estuary.
