The supposed site of an ancient beacon fire or Centre Hill. Marked by a composite monument with a circular stone base with a large flat rock on top – possibly a millstone – together with the later additon of a standing stone or large stone gatepost with fixing holes toward the top. This stone is possibly one which was removed from a pair that stood beside Stones Lane and near to Stones Grange Farm.
The site of the beacon, marked by a circular stone plinth is at approximately 266 metres ASL with higher ground behind reaching well over 350 metres. Like many of the supposed old beacon sites it is not positioned at the highest level in the surrounding landscape.
